2004 Olympic Champ Carly Patterson is a Married Woman

2004 Olympic All-Around Champion, Carly Patterson traded a leotard for a wedding gown when she walked down the aisle on Saturday to marry her longtime boyfriend, Mark Caldwell.

Carly is best known for winning the gold medal in Athens
(much to the chagrin of Svetlana Khorkina). She trained at World Olympic Gymnastics Academy, the same gym as 2008 Beijing Champion Nastia Liukin and  National Champion and World Medalist, Rebecca Bross. She trained under former soviet acrobat, Evgeny Marchenko.

Carly and Mark's love story began when they met at the wedding of a mutual friend three years ago. According to Carly and People.com, it was love at first sight.

Patterson also says she knew almost immediately after meeting Caldwell at a mutual friend's wedding more than three years ago that he was the man for her.

"This might sound cliché, but after two weeks of dating Mark I knew he was a completely different from any other guy I've ever met," Patterson says of her hubby, who is a consultant for Accenture's management consulting group. "Mark is handsome, loving and he makes me laugh. He is a great support system and motivator in my life. I feel so lucky and fortunate that I get to spend forever with my best friend and the love of my life." Per People.com

He proposed in January of 2012 and Carly gladly accepted.

Carly, 24 and Mark, 27 a management consultant, got married in Dallas, in front of about 250 guests (don't know of any gymnastics guests, but I can only assume there was). The bride wore a Vera Wang gown and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Gymnastics Biggest Bad-Asses

While listening to a podcast about badass people (nearly all of whom were men), I decided it was time to celebrate the badass-ness of women. Since this is a gymnastics blog, this article will focus on bad asses in the sport of gymnastics, particularly women in gymnastics. These women are tough for their perseverance, their bravery, and just generally being awesome.
