McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross Confirmed For Classics

USA Gymnastics has released the official list for the competitor field for the Secret Classic on July 27.
McKayla and Kyla are just as excited as we are for Classics!

Returning Fierce Five members, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross have been officially confirmed to the field. No surprise, McKayla and Kyla were spotted at National team training camp in early June working on new floor routines. Kyla was seen doing some gorgeous beam connections which we hope to see at the Classics in a full routine.

American Cup runner up, Simone Biles is among those listed to compete. New faces are listed such as Desert Lights, MyKayla Skinner who has been blowing up YouTube with her amazing double double layout on floor exercise. Junior National champion, Lexie Priessman is making her debut as a first year senior. Lexie trains at Cincinnati Gymnastics under the tutelage of Mary Lee Tracey, who coached Mag Seven members, Amanda Borden and Jaycee Phelps. Another first year senior training under a former gold medalist is Peyton Ernst of Texas Dreams. Peyton trains under 1991 World Champion, Kim Zmeskal. Definitely looking forward to seeing what comes out of that.

Here is the official seniors list from USAGym.org:

Representing the juniors are Lexie's teammate and fellow Mary Lee disciple, Amelia Hundley. Carrying on the gymnastics family tradition, Sydney Johnson-Scharpf, daughter of former USA gymnast, Brandy Johnson is making her junior international debut after a debut at the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup that got the Gymnternet all a twitter. Fellow Colorado girl, Polina Shchennikova is traveling from good old Arvada, where today, there was a torrential downpour. I'm looking forward to seeing her beam routine. It's 50 shades of Nastia Liukin, pre-hair flipping days. Here is the list of juniors competing for their shot at glory.

Gymnastics Biggest Bad-Asses

While listening to a podcast about badass people (nearly all of whom were men), I decided it was time to celebrate the badass-ness of women. Since this is a gymnastics blog, this article will focus on bad asses in the sport of gymnastics, particularly women in gymnastics. These women are tough for their perseverance, their bravery, and just generally being awesome.
