No Worlds For Afan

Valentina Rodionenko confirmed today that Ksenia Afanasyeva will not be in attendance at Worlds after all.

Ksenia recently had surgery on her ankle from an old injury and it widely speculated amongst gym-fans if she would even be at the World Championships, which will be held later this month in Antwerp, Belgium.
Valentina, Russia's head coach (dictator), told Itar-TASS that they decided that it was in Ksenia's best interest to rest up and hopefully be better by December.

More than likely, Tatiana Nabieva and Aliya Mustafina will compete in the all around. Maria Paseka, Viktoria Komova and Anna Rodionova are in contention for event specialist spots.

But Viktoria Komova is still recovering from her stint in the hospital and only just resumed training. Valentina had said they would know in two weeks whether or not she'd be up to snuff for Worlds at the end of the month.

These women are tough for their perseverance, their bravery, and just generally being awesome.
