Rachel Gowey Out of P&G Championships

After injuring herself during today's podium training, Rachel Gowey has withdrawn from the P&G Championships.

Rachel, 16 fractured her ankle while training her triple twist beam dismount hours earlier. USA Today reports that Rachel fell short on her dismount and had to be carried off the podium by her coach, Liang Chow while bursting into tears.

Rachel was only planning on doing two events anyways since she allegedly injured her ankle earlier in the week. She missed last year's P&G Championships due to a back injury but was put on the national team later in the year.

The irony is, Rachel was in the running with strong chances of being named to the Worlds team going to China in October.

Marta Karolyi, women's team coordinator told USA Today:

"I would assume she can't be in play for worlds. It's a big shame because she is one of the girls who came in really strong this year."

Rachel trains with the famed coach Chow at his gym in Des Moines, Iowa. The same gym that produced Gabby Douglas and Shawn Johnson. Rachel also trains with junior beam prodigy, Norah Flately. In the class of 2016, she has committed to the University of Florida. Here is wishing Rachel a speedy recovery.
