European Games and the Return of Viktoria Komova

The first European Games are commencing this week in Baku, Azerbaijan and the biggest story heading into the Games is the return of 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist, Viktoria Komova.



Viktoria aka "Vika" has not been seen in international competition since the London Olympics three years ago. Since then, she's been dealing with what seems like a never ending string of injuries and setbacks that included a bout with viral meningitis in 2013.

Vika's made appearances in her home country of Russia at national competitions. She reappeared at last year's Russian nationals, a little bit taller and a couple years older. Vika looked poised and ready to represent Russia again, but was again delayed by further injuries. Since then, it's been a big question on whether or not she'll make a return.

Last week, Vika was named to represent Russia at the European Games, along with Aliya Mustafina and fellow Youth Olympic Games all-around champion, Seda Tutkhalyan (Vika was the YOG inaugural all-around champ in 2010. s

For artistic gymnastics, qualifications will start Saturday, June 13. Team finals will be held Sunday, June 14. Individual all-around final will be held June 20. More details will follow later.
