Injuries Round Up - Schwab & Wellick

Utah's Sabrina Schwab and Arkansas' Amanda Wellick both went down this week with injuries and could be out for the rest of the season.

Arkansas' Senior, Amanda Wellick injured herself in warm-ups prior to Arkansas' opening home meet against Missouri. Sources say the senior tore her Achillies tendon on floor. There has been no official statement from Arkansas regarding Wellick's injury. But, it appears she could be out for the season if in fact, she did tear her Achillies.

Utah sophomore, Sabrina Schwab is down for the count as well, tearing her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) during Tuesday's practice while training beam. Schwab was making an appearance in the all-around the last two meets and last year, was a staple on bars and floor.

Per the Salt Lake Tribune, head coach Megan Mardsen is already considering options to replace Schwab in the line-ups. Freshman Missy Reinstadtler was already slated to replace Schwab in beam and floor line-ups, so coaches could determine how she'd perform in competition. Also per the Tribune, red-shirt sophomore Kari Lee is "pushing vault and floor line-ups."

It's nothing Utah hasn't dealt with before, they lost Kari Lee last year to an Achillies tear and Tori Wilson the year before that, Kassandra Lopez in 2014 and Corrie Lothrup in 2013, all due to Achillies injuries.

Utah is back at home this week hosting a quad meet with Denver, Boise State and Illinois-Chicago, Friday night at 7 p.m. MST.

Since this is a gymnastics blog, this article will focus on bad asses in the sport of gymnastics, particularly women in gymnastics. These women are tough for their perseverance, their bravery, and just generally being awesome.
