MCSMaria's Artistic Gymnastics Blog

The excitement of the World Championships continues with the final day of event finals and the final day of the championships. With five packed finals, this day is sure to offer up some heartbreaks, tears and more tears and possibly some blood. Let's take a look at what's in store for the final day of event finals and the World Championships. The events for today are men's vault, parallel bars and high bar and women's balance beam and floor exercise. I'll start with the women's events since that's what I'm most familiar with.

Tonight, a new queen of women's gymnastics will be crowned. This is a tight race as Ragan Smith and Mai Murakami qualified in first and second, separated by only 0.001, Mai with a 55.933 to Ragan's 55.932. Also contending is Elena Eremina, Russia's newest little darling with her Nabieva on bars. And you can never leave out the home team as Ellie Black is a major contender as well as Brooklyn Moors with her beautiful nostalgic, wistful floor routine. Also look out for Morgan Hurd, Melanie De Jesus Dos Santos of France, Nina Derwael of Belgium and her ridiculous bars and Diana Varinska of Ukraine. Refresh the page every five to ten minutes for updates. Here are the starting rotations - Starting on vault - Ellie Black Ragan Smith* Mai Murakami Morgan Hurd Elena Eremina Melanie De Jesus Dos Santos Ioana Crisan Starting on bars - Aiko Sugihara Nina Derwael Diana Varinska Tabea Alt Giulia Steingruber Angelina Melnikova Starting on beam - Brooklyn M...

It's the home stretch! It's the fifth and final subdivision in the women's qualifications for artistic gymnastics. This subdivision we will see the Canadian team, lead by Ellie Black and former Georgia gymnast,  Brittany Rogers. We are also going to see team Japan, featuring Sae Miyakawa, and Mai Murakami. We will also see France and a mixed group featuring competitors from Cuba, Mexico, Portugal and Poland. Refresh the page every ten minutes or so to get all the action.

History was made again during last night's women's all-around final in Glasgow, Scotland during the world championships. Simone Biles became the first woman to win three consecutive all-around titles. Gabby Douglas became the first returning Olympic Champion to medal in a worlds final in... forever. Larisa Iordache came back to win a bronze medal in the all-around after a disappointing qualification.

Little Mai Murakami of Japan is a fantastic floor worker and bad ass tumbler.

This edition of Favorite Routines is featuring Japan's Mai Murakami on floor exercise. This is a great routine. The tumbling is clean and powerful, the landings are good and she completes a bad ass quadruple turn. The music is an interesting choice, but it adds a mysterious aspect to it. Plus, she is just so cute, it's hard not to like her.

The drama that were the Worlds qualifications are over and it was much like an episode of the Twilight Zone. Judges overscoring, underscoring, falls, you name it! The craziness!
