Men's All-Around Final Preview

The bad news is that Kohei Uchimura, the king of men's gymnastics has been dethroned due to withdrawing after injuring his ankle in qualifications. With Simone Biles taking time off after the Olympics, this championships marks the first time since 2013 that a new men's AND women's all-around champion will be crowned. So who is the heir to Kohei's throne? Who is the heir to Simone's throne? I'll start with the men tonight. This will be brief as I am not as up to snuff on my men's gymnastics as I should be.

Men's All-Around Final Recap

Long live the King. Kohei Uchimura cemented his status as the king of men's gymnastics, winning his second Olympic all-around title, narrowly beating out Oleg Vernaiev of the Ukraine.

Event Finals Day Two: Simone Breaks a World Record

Well, second day of event finals was no less extraordinary with more history making moments.  Simone Biles broke a huge record, and the Team USA guys finally got their medals. Before I break down in a fit of depression because worlds is over, let me recap the events of today.  Warning - I've been at this for about 10 days straight now, so I may break into snark unexpectedly.

Yesterday it was the women, today, the men crowned their all-around champion, or really, it was Kohei showed up and took his gold medal, thank-you-very-much. That's one, two, three, four, five and six, bitches! (Note, I'm not as fluent in men's gymanstics as I am with women's so please, bear with me)

Could Simone Biles Become the Women's Kohei Uchimura?

Today, Kohei Uchimura  of Japan took home his fifth consecutive world all-around title. An impressive feat. He won with an admirable 1.492 points over Great Britain's Max Whitlock.  They don't call him King Kohei for nothing, he's in the Guinness Book of World Records for goodness sake. He dominated the 09-12 quad and it's looking like he'll dominate the 13-16 quad. That's Queen Simone to you! Tomorrow, Simone Biles of the USA will contend for her second all-around title.  If she does so, she will be the first US woman since Shannon Miller in 1993 and 1994.On Sunday, Simone took the top spot in qualification with 59.599, following her was Russia's Aliya Mustafina with a 58.874 and Romania's Larisa Iordache with a 58.365. She became a repeat national champion back in August, and she and team USA have already scored their  second consecutive world title and their first title of the new quad.  Could she be women's gymnastics version of Kohei? ...

Sam Mikulak Lightens Up the Tension At Worlds

Sam Mikulak is known for his chill, California surfer boy personality. During qualifications Sam kept spirits light around the arena with his charm and easy going spirit by dancing on the competition floor.

Kohei Uchimura training New "G" element - Quadruple twisting Double layo...

Kohei Uchimura is pretty much "Mr. Men's Gymnastics". He wins almost everything and every male gymnast in the world, heck the galaxy, dreams of beating him one day. Sometimes, I wonder if they give him a gold for simply breathing in the arena. The person that manages to beat him at something is McKayla Maroney who does a higher Amanar (Shewfelt MAG) than he does. I wonder if he loses sleep at night with that fact? If I could only do a higher Amanar than McKayla Maroney
