Rio Training: Hong Un Jong Training a Triple Twisting Yurchenko

The favorite topic of discussion this quad (besides the hideousness of wolf turns) is the triple twisting Yurchenko. Many have been rumored to be training it, North Korean gymnast Hong Un Jong submitted the triple twisting yurchenko, (known about the gymternet simply as the TTY) at the 2013 world championships,

Casey Jo Magee (MacPherson) Showing off Her Beam Skills

Casey Jo has still got it. Casey Jo MacPherson, nee Magee is a former Arkansas gymnast and US national team member and since finishing her education, she has taken to coaching at Missouri.  Recently, after the team finished their beam workout, MacPherson showed her team in a special exhibition that she's still got it and "It" being gymnastics skills. MacPherson still has an impressive repertoire of skills.

Great Britain's Catherine Lyons is only one of the most promising talents on the junior scene, with beautiful artistry and glorious form and execution, her gymnastics is breath taking. Recently, a GIF of the 14-year-old training a Memmel turn (double spin in Y position) on beam surfaced on Tumblr.

Alyssa Baumann Training an Amanar

World team champion Alyssa Baumann has been caught on video upgrading her skills.  A video has surfaced of Alyssa training an Amanar (yurchenko style vault, round off on, 2 1/2 twists off). This video has been floating around Tumblr for a while (yes, I am very behind and I am sorry) and  The Magnificent USA, Russian and Romania confirmed that this is Alyssa.

January Training Camp:Ragan Smith

The good folks at USA Gymnastics have once again came through for the Gymternet at large and they have supplied us with training videos from the January training camp. This video features junior Ragan Smith training some pretty bad ass skills for such a tiny person. After watching this video, I now know two things.

At The Ranch - Featuring Nia Dennis and Alexis Vasquez and Bailie Key's New Skills

The first camp video of 2015 has been bestowed upon the Gymternet by the amazing gym gods at USA Gymnastics. This video is a feature about the newest Team USA seniors, Bailie Key Miss "I win everything all the time", Nia "I have the best standing Arabian on beam ever", and Chow's newest ingenue, Alexis Vasquez. The girls are all interviewed about their anticipation about becoming seniors. Bailie says she's excited to become a senior because she knows all the senior girls. Marta Karolyi, Team USA's women's team coordinator is interviewed and she talks about each of the girls and their strengths and weaknesses and of course, her goals for them. Marta says she wants to see Alexis upgrade some of her skills and she wants to see Nia work on her consistency.  But the best part is Bailie is training some boss new skills.

Maggie Nichols Training A Full Twisting Double Layout

Swaggie Maggie is getting her swag on in the gym.. The Pan American Team gold medalist and all-around bronze medalist posted a video on her Instagram account of her training a new skill, a full twisting double layout.

8 New Skills Entered in the Code of Points

Eight new skills were added to the FIG's code of points. These skills were submitted from athletes from all around the world. To get the skill named for them, the athlete had to complete the skill successfully (without a fall) at a World Championship or Olympic Games (Youth Olympic Games for Juniors). The element must also have a C or higher rating in order to have her name attached to it. In this post, I have listed the skills and the athlete who submitted the skill or whom it's being named for. When available, there are videos accompanying the name of the skill for reference.

Olivia Cimpian of Romania showed off a unique beam mount series at Elite Massalia in France. Romania is historically a team that is proficient on beam and Olivia, a junior is no exception.

Australia's Olivia Vivian Does the Splits Between The Bars

Two things to remember about the uneven bars. 1. The distance between the bars has gotten wider as the sport has changed. 2. The current distance between the bars with the current FIG (International Gymnastics Federation; Federation Internationale Gymnastique) standard measurements is between 130 cm to 180 cm (4'3"  to 5'10").
