In Defense of Gabby Douglas

The internet isn't happy unless it has someone to hate on. For this Olympic Games, that person's been Gabby Douglas. 2012 Olympic team and all-around champion and 2016 Team Olympic Champ. Gabby has had the internet shit-storm thrown at her over the course of about a week. If it wasn't for her hair, it was for the way she stood during the medal ceremony during the US National anthem, or getting shit for allegedly not supporting her teammates enough. My eyes are rolling so hard I can see the back of my eyelids. Seriously, internet? The unfortunate part about all of this is the internet will move on to something even more stupid in two days and then Gabby is left to deal with the hate.

Women's Olympic Trials - Day 1 Thoughts

Well, one night of trials is over and done with. There is still one more night of intense competition in this pressure cooker. I wish that metaphor were hyperbole, but alas, I kid you not. The pressure is on in San Jose. This is really it, you eff up too badly here, your dreams of Olympic glory end. So who is holding up under the intense scrutiny? Let's take a look and see.

Things to Look Forward to in 2016: The American Cup

It's a new year and that means lots of gymnastics to look forward to. I've decided to do a small series on things to look forward to in the coming year of gymnastics. First up, the American Cup. USA Gymnastics is on the ball and has already announced the athletes competing at the meet in March.

WAG All-Around Final - Simone Three-peats as World Champ; Larisa Earns Redemption with a Bronze

History was made again during last night's women's all-around final in Glasgow, Scotland during the world championships. Simone Biles became the first woman to win three consecutive all-around titles. Gabby Douglas became the first returning Olympic Champion to medal in a worlds final in... forever. Larisa Iordache came back to win a bronze medal in the all-around after a disappointing qualification.

It is the day of the Women's All-Around final. Today, Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles, the reigning Olympic and world champions will go head to head for their shot of glory, with the current European Champion and the current Pan Ams Champion.

Secret Classic - A Gym Hangover Recap

The US Secret Classic concluded last night. There was returning favorites and new challengers and old familiar faces who rose to the occasion. It's a year out from the Olympics, and really, this is the time where it counts. Team USA is deeper, which makes the field more competitive. The USA could have several Olympic teams. This meet is the start of the "season" for Team USA. From here, the girls will compete at the P&G Championships in Indianapolis in a couple of weeks, from there, a selection committee will chose from a pool of girls at the Worlds selection camp, which they will be invited to depending on their finish at Championships. Here are some highlights from the meet.

Secret Classic Preview

Saturday will be the premier of the USA gymnastics will kick off championship season season starting with the Secret Classic,  final qualifier to the P&G Championships, for the women. It's the year before the Olympics, so it's very likely we will see contenders for the Olympic team performing at the meet. There are a plethora of newbies as well as some returning heavy hitters, all of whom have the ultimate goal, to be named to the world championships team for the USA.

2012 all-around champion Gabby Douglas is rejoining the national team for the first time since London. Today, USA Gymnastics released the roster for the June national team training camp that will commence Monday. Joining her will be the co-winner of this year's Nastia Liukin Cup, McKenna Kelley (aka Mary Lou Retton's daughter.)

Gabby Douglas Leaves Iowa for the Sunny Beaches of California

Gabby Douglas is no longer training with Chow, she has left Iowa to join her family in California. The news was officially broken by the Des Moines Register today. It's been reported Gabby's family moved out to Los Angeles earlier this year to be closer to her brother, who is attending school there. Rumors were flying in Hartford over the weekend at the P&G National Championships. When confronted with the rumors, Gabby told the AP "Have I changed coaches? No...As far as I know I'm still at Chow's."

Updated:Leon Purvis Returns to YouTube To Court Gabby Douglas

Back in December, Glassboro High School Senior, Leon Purvis famously took to YouTube to ask 2012 All Around Champion, Gabby Douglas to his senior prom in May. Gabby unfortunately turned him down. But she gracefully turned him down, citing scheduling conflicts. Leon is back and he's courting Gabby for a date. Gabby and Leon have been communicating a little bit via Twitter. It's small things, he's asked Gabby what her favorite restaurant is, her response was BangBang. She wished him a happy birthday on Twitter and later, followed him back. Recently, he tweeted her and asked if he helped her get to 800,000 followers on Twitter, would she go out with him then? Her response...
